Just because it's public land
Just because it's public land doesn't mean it's open to snowmobiling or that off-trail riding is permitted.
Common public land closures include:
- All Congressionally-designated Wilderness is closed to snowmobiling, punishable by a $5,000 fine and up to six months in jail.
- Wildlife Winter Range is closed to snowmobiling except on a designated trail.
- Non-motorized zones are closed to snowmobiling.
Ask first and know before you go, otherwise presume STAY ON TRAIL is the rule across all public lands!
